About Mundargi

City Overview :

The name 'Mundargi' derived from the hill-station Murudagiri, gist 'Hill of Shiva'. Mundargi is a civic town in Gadag district of Karnataka. Mundargi is close to two district headquarters, being about 36 kilometres from Gadag and around 50 kilometres from Koppal.
The river Tungabhadra streams about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from Mundargi, and offers water.

Culture :

Mundargi is prominent for the ancient Mundargi fort traced on the mount top. Mundargi is home to the Shri Kanaka Narsimha Temple, an ancient temple of Lord Narsimha. A Jatra (popular traditional drama) is held during Holi every year.

Education :

Mundargi has many schools and colleges like Shri SBS Ayurveda Medical College, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, and Lions Comp PU College etc.

Economy :

The soil is molded from the decomposed rocks of all types. The earths generally found are deep black cotton soil, sand mixed soil and red soil.

It is favorable for increasing oil seeds such as Groundnut, Sunflower, millets and Jowar, Wheat, Paddy, Pulses, Sugarcane, Onion, Cotton & Chilly under rain fed conditions.

The Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation provides training facilities in the preferment of cotton, woollen & silk handloom fabrics. Tungabhadra River enables advancement of pisciculture. The major mineral resource available is iron ore.

Climate :

The climate is dry and healthy in general. The summer starts from the middle of February and remains up to the first week of June. The south-west monsoon follows subsequently and covers up to the end of September. The period from December to middle of February is the cold season. Average rainfall of the Mundargi is 590 mm.

Transport :

By road, Mundargi is 37 kilometres (23 mi) south-east of Gadag and 32 kilometres (20 mi) south-west of Koppal. The total road length has increased to 944 km.
The nearest railway stations are at Gadag Junction and Koppal. Broad gauge line (4 kms) links through the Taluk.
The nearest Sea port is at Mangalore. Nevertheless, the seaport at Uttara Kannada District can also be used for trading purpose.
The nearest Airport is at Hubli which is about 113 km from Mundargi.
